Karnataka style sweet appe (sihi goliyappam)

Appe or goliyappam in kannada is an ever favourite dish from kannada cuisine. It's also called Paniyaram or Kuzhi Paniyaram in Tamil. It can be prepared sweet or savoury. Here, I have prepared them with Jaggery and dry fruits. They taste yummy!

Steps

First, wash and soak both the daal and rice separately for 8 hours. Then grind with cardamom powder and 1/4 cup grated coconut,using very less water to a coarse batter.

Then ferment this in a covered steel container kept in warm place for 8 to 10 hours. Then give a good mix.

Now mix rest of the ingredients and combine well. Heat an appe Patra/ pan / and grease each small mold on it with ghee.

Then pour a spoonfull of batter in each mold and pour ghee in each mold. Then cover and cook till base is done.

Then turn gently with a wooden turning stick and cook from other side. When done. Serve with coconut chutney or sweet coconut milk.
