Crispy Samosas with Easy Homemade Wrappers

I had some really good samosas at a restaurant and made them again at home! I used a recipe from a cookbook and omitted the butter and decreased the vegetable oil for a healthier result.
Homemade samosa wrappers are seriously delicious! You can fill them with whatever you want. If you use ground meat, it will harden just a bit when cooled so it's easy to work with.
If you don't want to use oil in the wrappers, I recommend this recipe -. They are gyoza skins made with egg but will still be crispy when fried. For 8 samosas. Recipe by Kuminchan

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Make the wrappers: Place the flour and salt into a bowl. Add the vegetable oil and water. Combine and knead until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 30 minutes.
- 2
Make Filling: 1. Boil the potato until soft and then mash it. Add the curry powder and salt for flavor. Parboil the green beans, cut into 1cm pieces, and add to the potato.
- 3
Make Filling 2: Place the vegetable oil and ground meat into a small pot. Cook until the meat changes color and then add the minced onion. Flavor with ketchup and salt, add the flour, and stir everything together.
- 4
Divide the wrapper dough into 4 portions, roll out each portion into a circle, and cut in half.
- 5
Fold over the cut edges to form a circle and stuff with the filling. Make four potato filled samosas and four ground meat samosas.
- 6
Use a fork to tightly seal the edges closed.
- 7
Deep-fry in medium-hot oil until crispy. Then they are done.
- 8
You can also try a baked version. They are easily and healthily baked in the oven. The crispy texture doesn't change.
- 9
You can also optionally dip in yogurt sauce, sweet chili sauce, or any other sauce. Yogurt Sauce: Combine 3 Tbsp yogurt, 1/2 tsp honey, 1/2 tsp lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Sprinkle with 1 tsp dried parsley and that's it.
- 10
Or try combining some feta cheese and broccoli for another version. Sprinkle with lots of black pepper and it will become a perfect snack for drinking.
- 11
In order to make them bite-sized, divide the dough into 6 portions for a total of 12 wrappers.
- 12
Then just deep-fry them until crispy.
- 13
Since the cheese has plenty of salt, they taste fine as is.
- 14
To use the leftover wrapper dough: Roll it out thin and long. Sprinkle with ground black pepper and salt.
- 15
Roll it up and cut it in half lengthwise.
- 16
Fold it in half and twist.
- 17
Toast in the toaster oven to get a crunchy and spicy snack.
- 18
Have samosas with some yogurt salad
- 19
You can also enjoy the twisted stick with some salad.
- 20
Have it with a mint yogurt sauce too.

Baked Butternut Squash Samosas Baked Butternut Squash Samosas
Another one for my Butternut Squash series ;) Samosas are often made with potatoes but I tried it with butternut squash instead! I also find baking samosas instead of frying is much easier and they turn out less oily. There are a lot of spices in here but if you don't have them all, don't worry. It will still taste good if you leave something out or you could even replace with curry powder or something else you like.Makes 8 samosas. Great make-ahead Samosa Pockets Great make-ahead Samosa Pockets
Samosas are a staple in my household, loved by both the working adults and the school-going kid. The only tricky part is making the pockets from scratch every single time , it can get really tiring. To make life easier (and keep things fun), I prepare the pockets ahead of time. A batch of about 28–30 pockets usually lasts my small family of three around 3 days. That way, all I need to do is whip up a quick, tasty filling and fry them to a crisp whenever we crave them. I like to switch up the fillings too, from the traditional, well-seasoned beef mince, to Irish potatoes with peas, and even cabbage for a spring roll twist. Samosas make a great snack both at home and on the go, feel free to add them to your kids lunchbox for a hussle free, filling, at school snack. #backtoschool #mealprep #batchcooking Bianca Mwale -
