It's a Sunnah, food and medicine to put it in simple words. Easy and a delicious one. Made with ground Barley, Honey and Milk. It has a miraculous cure for many a diseases. It's actually a soothing broth or porridge made from ground Barley or even soaked Barley Seeds and has many healing properties. Also is a delicious remedy for stress and depression.
This name Talbina comes from the Arabic word 'Laban' meaning Yogurt (fermented churned Milk) because of it's resemblance to Yogurt as it's soft and White. All said and done, this is a perfect Porridge or Broth for a healthy you.
Relish it with your loved ones and families and even your friends. They will just love it. Honey can be substituted with Dates as well for a change. Or can use both if desired.
Nowadays it's sold in ready to mix packs with many variations by Herbal shops. However it's always best to make it at home and keep it as authentic as possible.
Though slivered Dry Fruits and Nuts can be used as a lovely garnish. It's a perfect choice for Winters. A great option to stay warm and healthy. Infact it's a perfect choice for any day throughout the Year. Healthy and wholesome eating with all the goodness of natural ingredients.

Steps

40-45 minutes
  1. 1

Wash and rinse the Seeds thoroughly. Soak in clean drinking water overnight for best results.

  2. 2

Bring milk to a rolling boil on a high heat at first. Then add soaked and drained barley to it. Let it simmer on a low heat well covered for the next 35-40 minutes. Or pressure cook it just as i did. I highly recommend that. Keep stirring at regular intervals so that it doesn't stick to the bottom. Also add in chopped dates if desired. Mix well.

  3. 3

If you are pressure cooking it, then add everything together and cook for nearly 8-10 whistles. That's it.

  4. 4

It thickens and gets creamier. Garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios. Though the original authentic recipe doesn't have any nuts. It's just barley and honey. That's it. I have drizzled a generous amount of honey on top before serving it as well. Enjoy!

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
