So, we decided to make sparkling water easily at home. Basically, you can create a chemical reaction to make sparkling water in any order, but it seems best to dissolve the baking soda in water before adding the citric acid.
Steps
- 1
Prepare an empty plastic bottle. *Use a bottle and cap designed for carbonated drinks!
- 2
Cut a piece of parchment paper and place it on a kitchen scale (to use for adding ingredients into the bottle).
- 3
Measure 1 teaspoon (5g) each of baking soda and citric acid, and shake the bottle well each time to dissolve them in the water.
- 4
Pour into a glass, and enjoy the fizzy sparkling water!
- 5
Since it goes quickly, I made a lot in a 1.5L bottle.
- 6
Using a cylindrical shaker made it easy to add a spoonful directly without worrying about the narrow bottle opening.
- 7
You can also make it directly in a glass. This might be even easier!
- 8
If baking soda remains at the bottom, add cold water and more citric acid to make it drinkable again.
- 9
Adding ice and stirring seems to activate it even more. Fizzy!
- 10
Using 1 teaspoon each for a half portion (1 cup or 250ml) also tasted fine.
- 11
By the way, this is store-bought sparkling water.
- 12
Store-bought sparkling water might have larger bubbles.
- 13
Recently started a protein lifestyle! The key to making it delicious is cold water and ice. It's the same here.
