Ingredients

25-30 minutes  minutes
2-3 servings
  1. Kothimbir Mutkule -
  2. 2 cupscoriander leaves, chopped (washed well & drained)
  3. 1 cupwhole moong dal flour (whole green gram flour)
  4. 1 tsp.sesame seeds, lightly roasted
  5. 1 tbsp.roasted peanut powder
  6. 1 tsp.flax seed
  7. 1 tbsp.chia seeds
  8. salt to taste
  9. 1/2 tsp.turmeric powder
  10. 1 tsp.cumin seeds
  11. 7-8garlic cloves
  12. 2green chilies
  13. 2 tbsp.oil to shallow fry
  14. Upma -
  15. Few Leftover Mutkules, crumbled
  16. 2 tbsp.oil
  17. 1/2 tsp.mustard seeds
  18. 2whole dry chilies, broken
  19. 1 sprigcurry leaves
  20. 1 tsp.urad dal (split black gram)
  21. 2green chilies, slit
  22. 1 tsp.ginger, chopped
  23. 1onion, sliced
  24. salt to taste
  25. 1-2 tsp.sambar powder
  26. 2 tbsp.roasted peanuts
  27. 2 tbsp.coriander leaves, chopped

Steps

  1. 1

    Kothimbir Mutkule - Mix together all the ingredients, (except oil) and prepare a dough by adding water, little at a time. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.

    Take a small portion from the dough and make into oval shaped dumplings using greased hands. Make all the mutkule (dumplings) in the similar way. Steam them for 15 minutes and set aside to cool.

  3. 3

    Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the steamed mutkules in batches till light golden in color. Drain on a kitchen towel and serve hot with tomato sauce or any chutney of your choice.

  4. 4

    Upma with few leftover mutkules- Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds and dry red chilies. After it stops spluttering, add the green chilies, curry leaves, urad dal and chopped ginger. Sauté for a minute.

  5. 5

    Add the sliced onion and continue to stir fry till it is translucent. Now add the crumbled mutkule, salt and peanuts. Stir fry on a medium flame for 2-3 minutes.

  6. 6

    Switch off the flame and add the sambar powder and coriander leaves. Toss well and serve as it is or with coconut chutney for a simple and sumptuous breakfast.
