Kulith Saar is a lip-smacking liquid gravy , which is of consistency somewhat between dal & rasam . This horse gram liquid gravy can be enjoyed with rice or as a soup in between meals on cold winter days .
Horse gram is the most protein rich lentil on this planet . It is very high powered .That is why race horses are fed with this gram , hence the name given is horse gram in the markets .
It aids in reducing sugar levels , it is full of anti - oxidants, prevents kidney stones, gives relief from ulcers , asthma relief , keeps heart healthy, manages obesity, controls menstrual problems & keeps you warm in cold winters .

Wash horse gram in fresh water for 3 - 4 times. Add 2 cups of fresh water, little salt & pressure cook it for 5 whistles.

Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.

Add 1 cup of water & mash the cooked horse gram with a potato masher.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds & let them crackle. Add asafoetida, curry leaves & green chilli slit & saute on a slow flame for a few seconds.

Pour this tempering on the horse gram mixture & mix well. Cool the Saar for 5 minutes, while stirring occasionally.

Serve hot. A simple yet very tasty Saar is ready.
