Steps
- 1
Sauté Aromatics: In a medium skillet, melt butter or heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until soft and fragrant (about 3-4 minutes).
- 2
Cook Mushrooms: Add sliced mushrooms and thyme. Cook until mushrooms release their liquid and turn golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
- 3
Thicken (Optional): If using flour, sprinkle it over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute to cook out the raw flavor.
- 4
Add Liquids: Pour in broth and stir, scraping up any browned bits. Add cream, stirring to combine. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- 5
Season: Add salt and pepper to taste. Adjust consistency with more broth or cream if needed.
- 6
Serve: Spoon over steak, chicken, pasta, or mashed potatoes. Garnish with parsley if desired.
- 7
TIP:: Note: For a richer flavor, add a splash of white wine or a tablespoon of parmesan cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for upto 3 days
