For the Saar : Combien tomatoes (whole), grated coconut, beetroot, carrot ginger, garlic & green chillies in a pressure cooker Add 1/2 cup water & pressure cook it upto 1 whistle.

Open the pressure cooker once the air is released. Remove the cooked tomatoes & cool them a little & remove their skin.

Now puree everything in a blender. Keep aside.

Tempering : Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds, when they crackle, add asafoetida. Strain the puree in this tempering. Adjust the consistency by adding water.

Add sugar & salt as per taste.

Give it a rolling boil & turn of the gas.Garnish with chopped coriander. Our traditional Tomato Saar is ready to serve. Serve it as an appetizer or with steamed rice.
