Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.

Add diced onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings.

Stir in cream of chicken soup until well combined.

Spread sausage mixture evenly in a baking dish.

Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the top.

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots.

Bake 25–30 minutes, until tots are golden and cheese is melted and bubbly.
