Soak green moong dal overnight in water.

Drain and pressure cook dal with sufficient water, salt, and turmeric until soft.

Heat mustard oil in a pan. Add mustard and cumin seeds, let them splutter.

Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.

Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, salt, and turmeric. Cook until tomatoes soften. Add more water if required.

Pour the tadka over cooked dal and mix well.

Top it with ghee before serving.
Tips
For a richer flavor, adjust the amount of ghee to your preference.
