Ingredients

2-serving
  • 1/2 a bunchMint leaves -
  • 4 - 5 tbspsCoconut Grated -
  • 1Green chilli (or even 1/2 if you prefer less heat) chopped -
  • 1Tamarind lemon small - sized soaked
  • 2 gramdal Fried (pottukaai) - tbsps
  • 2 tspsOil -
  • 1/4 tspAsafoetida -
  • 1/4 tspMustard seeds -
  • Salt - as needed

  1. 1

    Fill up water in a wide bowl and immerse the mint leaves for 5 minutes. The dust/sand will settle at the bottom of the bowl. Take out the mint leaves carefully from the top.

  2. 2

    Heat a pan. Add 1 tsp of oil. Fry the chopped green chilli for a minute

  3. 3

    Add the mint leaves. Fry for 2 minutes till it starts to shrink. Don't let the color become dark

  4. 4

    In a mixie jar, take the fried mint leaves + green chilli, coconut, fried dal, tamarind and salt

  5. 5

    Pulse it for 3-4 times till all ingredients are combined to a coarse mixture.

  6. 6

    Add water 1 tbsp at a time and grind for few seconds each time till you get a smooth consistency

  7. 7

    Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl

  8. 8

    Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan. Fry mustard seeds till it starts to crackle. Add asafoetida.

  9. 9

    Add this seasoning to the chutney
