I hated nopales when I was young because they can be slobbery. But when I grew, I learned how to cook them properly (tips below)
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Wash and chop the nopales in 1x1 cm squares.
- 2
Put the chopped nopales in a strainer and rinse them with cold water for 40 seconds to drain the slobber. Then keep them in the sink draining for 10 minutes without water. This step is key.
- 3
Boil the nopales until cooked (they become soft.) It normally takes about 10 minutes. Beware of the foam spilling out of the pot while boiling.
- 4
Put the nopales back in the strainer and repeat step 2, for 10 more minutes. (The boiling process takes more slobber out...)
- 5
Heat (medium) a pan with oil. Chop the onion and the chili pepper and put them in the hot pan. Cook them until the onion is golden.
- 6
Add the cooked nopales to the pan. Increase the heat to high. Add the salt and pepper. You might need to add more oil. Saute them for 5 minutes while stirring.
- 7
Chop the stock cube with a knife so you make it powder, and add it to the pan. Stir and keep cooking until the powder dissolves (about 3 more minutes.)
- 8
You are done! Add a bit of lemon juice just before serving.

Cactus with Egg (Nopales con Huevo)10 #mommasrecipes Cactus with Egg (Nopales con Huevo)10 #mommasrecipes
This recipe is a delight that my mother prepared ... very simple, but very delicious. My mother had to think about what to cook, that it should be cheap, nutritious and tasty, because she had to feed 12 mouths . And this recipe gives us enough nutrients for a good breakfast or as an accompaniment if we want a main course with any meat. These Nopales with Egg, beans from the pot and some homemade tortillas... are a meal of 10!!! Chelito Rodriguez -
Stir Fried Pechay (Napa Cabbage) Stir Fried Pechay (Napa Cabbage)
Super fast and easy Chinese cabbage recipe with pork cutlets. Best to use a wok and with fire. Hence its very quick because this stir fry is done in high heat setting.NOTE: ABOUT CHINESE CABBAGES and the word "PECHAY" 😊There are two common Chinese cabbages available: one is the Napa Cabbage and the Bok Choy. If you will google the two types, you will immediately notice the difference in form, leaves and color of both types. On another hand, I used the word "Pechay" as this is our local term for the Chinese cabbage. I should have thought of this instead to use a more universal term (thanks to cookpad admin for reminding me. Sorry ✌) The word Pechay is derived from the Fokkien term for Chinese cabbage "Pe-tsai". Pe means white and Tsai means vegetables. I'm Filipino but we have adapted some Fokkien terms because there are many Fokkien speaking Fil-Chinese citizens in our country. bemski
