I tried making sweet n' sour pork with a cheap cut of meat, and using just one frying pan.

・If you first cook the meat really well, it will be fragrant, just as if you had deep fried.
・Using pork belly meat will make this juicy, and using loin will produce a lighter taste.
This time I used pork loin, as shown in the photo. Recipe by taco_bon

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. Filling
  2. 500 gramsThin sliced pork
  3. 3to 4 tablespoons Katakuriko
  4. 1Onion
  5. 1/2Carrot
  6. 2Green pepper
  7. 1/2 tspGrated garlic and ginger
  8. 2 tbspVegetable oil
  9. Flavoring ingredients:
  10. 1 tbspSoy sauce
  11. 1 tbspSake
  12. 2 tbspVinegar
  13. 2 tbspSugar
  14. 1/2 tbspOyster sauce
  15. 5 tbspWater
  16. 1 tbspKatakuriko

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the onions, carrots, and green peppers into thin pieces, about the same size. Mix the flavoring ingredients together and set aside.

  2. 2

Roll the pork into bite-sized pieces. Cut the wider pieces into thin slices and roll them up. You can use any parts of meat you prefer.

  3. 3

Coat the meat from Step 2 with katakuriko. Add vegetable oil to a frying pan, and place the meat rolls seam-side down on the pan. Cook while rolling them around, until golden brown.

  4. 4

Cover with a lid and steam-cook for 2~3 minutes over medium heat so that they cook through. Wipe the excess grease with a paper towel, once the meat has cooked through.

  5. 5

Add garlic and ginger to the pan in Step 4. After spreading it throughout the mixture, add in the vegetables from step 1, and roughly cook through.

  6. 6

Stir in the flavoring ingredients from Step 1, and once it has thickened throughout, it's done.
