Chola or Bengali Kala Chana Masala

#comfort
#cookpadindia
A Bengali dish that is a must have for Iftaar in Ramadan. A very simple and spicy treat that is easy to make as well. Almost done in a jiffy, the only thing is the soaking time needed for the black chickpeas. Otherwise this one is readied in a matter of just a few minutes. After Jhaal Muri, this is yet another popular snack from Bengali Cuisine. I have learnt this from our bachelor Bangladeshi neighbours who stay in our neighbourhood here. Every Ramadan, this is the one dish that I always look forward from them at Iftaar time. I have tried this many a times until now and thus remains my most preferred comfort food till date.

Steps
- 1
Soak these black chickpeas overnight and boil using salt the next day. It is better to soak them overnight for best results.
- 2
Heat oil and saute ginger garlic paste first followed by onion. Add chilli powder and coriander powder. Mix well and cook for a minute. Take it off the heat and stir in the other ingredients.
- 3
Sprinkle garam masala and squeeze some lemon juice. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot at Iftaar time. Relish this yummy and spicy Chola as called in Bengali which means kala chana (masala) when translated. Enjoy!
