My brothers (My Valentine's for this year) who's favourite meal is Omena served with Ugali, Rice, Chapati, Bread, or Kubus.

Omena in Luo, Dagaa in Swahili, Uvwuni in Lulogoli my mother - tongue (a luhya sub-tribe) is a small silvery sardine-like fish.
Omena is one of the leading healthy foods and has the best types of proteins which are very essential in the human body.
It has the Omega 3-fatty acids which are good for the heart and brain.
Pregnant mothers are advised to eat Omena regularly if they want to have healthy babies with strong bones.
If you also want to have intelligent kids, feed them with Omena when they are very young (from weaning time/age).

Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 250 gOmena (sorted)
  2. Green onions, chopped
  3. 2large tomatoes, chopped and 1 teaspoonful of tomato paste

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Wash the Omena 3 - 4 times in cold water, then put in medium heat water (not boiling water) for 3-5 minutes then drain the water and put in a Sufuria. Place the Sufuria in a medium heat fire, stir them and when the water has dried, add in some oil and cook for 5minutes. Add in your onions and cook till soft.

  2. 2

Now add the tomato and cook till tender and then add the tomato paste and cook for another 3 to 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Add in the garlic paste and stir to avoid sticking on the sufuria. Add in white pepper powder and salt and stir.

  4. 4

The Omena is now ready, serve hot with an accompaniment of your choice. I served with rice cooked with cummin seeds. Enjoy😘

I love healthy, clean, good, well cooked and of course.... tasty food! So for that reason, I must find my way to the kitchen. I love it most when someone enjoys the food I made, this gives me the pleasure to try out some new recipe the next time I find myself in the kitchen.
