Ingredients

6 servings
  • 1 lbground beef (80/20)
  • 1/2 lbground mild Italian sausage
  • 1small onion chopped
  • 1/2 cchopped bell pepper (any color)
  • 1 tspolive oil
  • 1 tspWorcestershire sauce
  • 1 cloveminced garlic
  • 1/2 tsporegano
  • 1/2 tspbasil
  • 1/2 tspItalian seasoning
  • 1/2 tspparsley
  • 1egg beaten
  • 3/4 cItalian bread crumbs
  • 2 sliceswhite bread, crumbled
  • 1 Tblsmilk
  • 8 ozshredded mozzarella, reserve 3/4 c for topping
  • 1/4 cparmesan cheese
  • 1 cmarinara sauce, reserve 1/2 c for later

Steps

  1. 1

    In a small skillet heat the olive oil and saute onions and bell peppers

  2. 2

    In a large bowl add meats, onion, bell peppers and all the other ingredients, reserving 3/4 c mozzarella cheese for topping

  3. 3

    Mix throughly with hands

  4. 4

    Form mixture into a loaf and place in a loaf pan or baking dish.

  5. 5

    Spread 1/2 c marina sauce on top

  6. 6

    Place in a 400 degree oven for 50 minutes.

  7. 7

    Remove from oven and top with remaining cheese. Return to oven for 10 more minutes.
