Ingredients

30 to 40 min
2 people
  1. 1 cupkambu / pearl millet
  2. 1 cupMoong dal/ pasiparuppu
  3. 1onion finely chopped
  4. 2tomatoes finely chopped
  5. 1 tspTurmeric powder
  6. 1 tspChilli powder
  7. 1 tspDhaniya / Coriander powder
  8. 1 tspCumin, / Jeera powder
  9. 1 tspGaram masala
  10. to tasteSalt -
  11. 4 cupsWater
  12. For Tempering
  13. 1 tspMustard seeds
  14. 1 tspCumin /Jeera
  15. 6-8curry leaves
  16. 1 pinchAsafoetida
  17. 2 tspoil

Cooking Instructions

30 to 40 min
  1. 1

    Add 2 tsp oil in a pressure pan or a cooker and temper Mustard, Cumin, Curry leaves and asafoetida

  2. 2

    Add chopped onions and saute till translucent

  3. 3

    Add chopped tomatoes and saute till they turn mushy

  4. 4

    Then add chilli powder, turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala, Jeera powder and saute for a few seconds

    Wash a cup each of Moong dal and pearl millet

  6. 6

    Add the Moong dal and pearl millet to the pan and saute for a few seconds

  7. 7

    Add 4 cups of water and add salt according to taste

  8. 8

    Cover the lid and let it cook till about to 6 to 8 whistles. Open the lid after all the steam escapes. And give it a nice mix & check for salt. Garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves.
    Add an extra tsp of ghee (optional) for an extra flavour
