Ingredients

  1. 2 1/2 cupsgranulated sugar, divided
  2. 2 cupsflour
  3. 1 cupcocoa, divided
  4. 4 tsp.Baking powder
  5. 1/2 tsp.Salt
  6. 1 cupmilk
  7. 2/3 cupunsalted butter, melted
  8. 1 Tbsp.Vanilla extract
  9. 1 cupBrown sugar
  10. 2 1/2 cupshot water
  11. Ice cream, if desired for serving

Cooking Instructions

    Preheat oven to 350. Heat the water on the stove to very hot, just under a simmer

    Combine 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar, flour, 1/2 cup of cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla and mix until smooth.

    Pour the batter into a lightly greased 9x13 dish and spread evenly.

    In a small bowl stir together 1 cup of sugar, brown sugar, and 1/2 cup of cocoa. Sprinkle this evenly over the batter. Pour the hot water over the top- DO NOT STIR

    Bake 40 minutes, until center is almost set. Remove from oven and let stand 15 minutes.

    After 15 minutes, cake may be spooned info individual serving bowls making sure to spoon the fudgy sauce from the bottom. Add ice cream and serve.

    If the cake is made ahead of time, warm individually servings in microwave before serving.
