Nana's Candied Yams
Passed down from my nana to my mom. It was never written down until my mom shared it with me. Always my favorite side dish at thanksgiving!
Steps

Cook fresh yams, covered, in enough boiling water to cover. for 25 to 35 minutes OR until tender. (A fork should pierce them easily.)

Drain cooked yams and let cool. When you can hold them without burning your hands, peel the skin off & cut into 1/2 inch thick slices.

In a buttered 1 quart casserole dish layer half the yams, sugar, & butter. Then repeat the layers.

Bake uncovered in 375 oven for 30-35 minutes or until yams are glazed, spooning liquid over yams once or twice.

Sprinkle with mini marshmallows & bake for additional 5 to 10 minutes or until marshmallows are melted and lightly golden on top.
