If you're US military, ex-military or even a military brat, you'll definitely remember what a SOS was. Well, all of us members and federal prisoners anyway. It was made with disgusting expired canned chipped beef that you had to rinse twice - or, browned half spoiled hamburger - outdated cans of cream of mushroom soup - mushy peas and a powdered milk gravy. If you were lucky, you'd get packets of brown gravy. With that, my daddy decided to seriously revamp that disappointing original version a long time ago. This was his super easy, uber delicious version of that dish. Great work students!

Cooking Instructions

10 Minutes
  1. 1

Here's what you'll need. Mushrooms not pictured since they're optional.

  2. 2

Fry everything together in the meat section and fry until cooked. No need to drain if using Jimmy Dean.

  3. 3

Whisk your gravy well. McCormick only calls for water but for added richness I use half milk and half water. Stir constantly until thickened.

  4. 4

Mix everything together and simmer until warm. Add additional milk if needed to thin.

  5. 5

    Toast your bread.

  6. 6

Pile hot gravy on thick toast. Enjoy!
