Five-Color Bánh Trôi (Vietnamese Glutinous Rice Balls)

Five-Color Bánh Trôi (Vietnamese Glutinous Rice Balls)
Steps
- 1
Place the glutinous rice flour in a bowl. Gradually add water while kneading thoroughly and firmly until the dough is smooth (be careful to add water slowly to avoid making the dough too wet). Let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes. If making colored dough, add the coloring at the beginning and knead until smooth as above.
- 2
Toast the sesame seeds until golden brown.
- 3
Take a small piece of dough, flatten it, place a piece of cane sugar in the center, and roll it into a ball.
- 4
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Drop the rice balls in and cook until they float to the surface, then transfer them to a bowl of cold water.
- 5
Remove the rice balls to a plate, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, and enjoy.
