Ingredients

4 servings
  • 250 gmflower of Banana
  • 50 gmsmall white Chana
  • 1medium Potato chopped
  • For Masala
  • 2 tbspOnion paste
  • 2 tspGinger-Garlic paste
  • 2medium Tomato chopped
  • 1green Chilli finely chopped
  • as neededDry Masala
  • 1/3 tspPanch phutan
  • 1/2 tspKashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tspHing powder
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds (zeera) powder
  • 1/2 tspCoriander powder
  • 1 tspKasoori methi, lightly fried and crushed to powder
  • 1/3 tspHomemade Garam masala
  • 1 tspcooking oil
  • 1 tspGhee
  • As neededChopped Green Coriander to garnish

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak the chana in warm water for 2 hours. Clean, wash and boil in a pressure cooker. Chop the Potato.

    Separate the banana flowers from each other.

    Remove the hard parts of each flower as seen on photo.The hard part cause bitterness.

    Boil the flowers in hot water. Drain and chop.Take a kadhai. Heat oil. Add panch phutan and hing. Let it sputter.

    Fry the Onion paste till translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste, Kashmiri chilli powder, turmeric, salt and chopped tomatoes.

    Mix well. Slow down the flame and cover the Kadhai. Cook till the tomatoes are softened and oil is separated.

    Now add 1cup of water and mix rest of the dry masala. Cook uncovered for 2 minutes in low medium flame.

    Add chopped banana flowers, potatoes and boiled chana, cover and cook till it is done.
    Serve hot by garnishing with chopped coriander leaves with roti, poori or paratha.

    P.S. these two hard part of Banana flower are bitter. As remove them from each flower.
