Singapore Frog Porridge Singapore Frog Porridge
Saigon, the 81st day of Tet in the Year of the Rat, during the reign of Queen Co Vy the 19th.It’s been 14 days since the start of the nationwide lockdown. Outside, signs of human life are faint. My 8-year-old son’s YouTube channel hasn’t had a single view in over ten days, something that’s never happened before. Now he’s making a handmade notebook and writing on the cover: "Diary of Very Boring Days, Do Not Touch (except for May)." May, my 8-month-old daughter, is sitting on the floor eating toilet paper. Not far away, my wife is still ironing clothes, and she started talking to the household items last week. At home, only the Wi-Fi and I are still working—barely. We can’t even remember what we last ate. These days, the freezer is like Doraemon’s magic bag, and the man of the house rummages through it aimlessly until he finds a plastic tray with four frogs bought last week. Like clockwork, recipes start popping into my head, but most are impossible due to missing ingredients. Then, 'Singapore Frog Porridge' appears like a lifesaver.
