Ingredients

4 servings
  1. For idli batter(to make appam)
  2. 2 cupidli rice
  3. 1 cupwhole white urad
  4. 1fistful thin poha(washed and strained)
  5. to tasteSalt
  6. 1 tbspgreen chillies-ginger paste
  7. 2 tbspchopped fresh coriander leaves
  8. 2 tbspfinely chopped cashewnuts
  9. leavesFinely chopped curry
  10. Oil for roasting
  11. To serve
  12. Green coriander chutney
  13. Hot coffee

Cooking Instructions

    Wash idli rice 4-5 times in water,soak in enough water for 4 hours. Wash whole white urad 4-5 times in water,soak in water for 4 hours. First grind urad,then add soaked idli rice, and washed poha & grind into little coarse batter in wet grinder. Keep cover and let it ferment overnight..(for 14-16 hours).

    Next day add salt, chopped coriander, green chillies ginger paste, cashewnuts pieces,mix well.

    Heat appam tawa add 1/4 tsp oil in each cavity, with help of brush,add 1 tbsp of prepared idli batter in each cavity.

    Cover and cook for few minutes.

    Appam will fluff up..

    As the lower side turns golden brown in colour,flip them one by one..cook the other side till golden brown in colour.

    Serve hot Appam with green coriander chutney and hot coffee.
