Dawood Basha Kofta Dawood Basha Kofta
Dawood Basha Kofta is a dish with Turkish origins that entered Egypt during the Ottoman era. Like many other dishes introduced to Egypt long ago, Egyptians have made many changes and adaptations to it over the years, resulting in the version we know today. It is typically served as fried meatballs cooked in tomato sauce, or sometimes just as fried meatballs on their own.Historical stories link this Turkish-origin dish to the Ottoman governor "Dawood Basha," who was appointed by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent as governor of Egypt in 1538 AD (945 AH).Dawood Basha was the first Ottoman governor to be buried in Egypt, as he requested to be laid to rest next to Imam Al-Layth ibn Sa'd. He was known as one of the greatest Ottoman governors of Egypt, recognized for his broad knowledge, respect for scholars, and noble character. The dish is associated with his name because he was known for his great love of it, reportedly eating it almost daily. Some stories say the dish was named after him because he once punished his personal chef for making a mistake in its preparation, and since then, the dish has carried his name. الشيف ام دحوم||🇸🇦✨Translated from Cookpad Saudi Arabia -
