This cake is a little trouble to make but the reward when its done is outstanding. This recipe is at least 100 year old and has been handed down from great grandmother to grandmother to my mom and now myself.

Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cupbuttermilk
  2. 1 1/2 cupsugar
  3. 2 largeeggs
  4. 8 tbspvanilla extract
  5. 1/2 cupbutter
  6. 5 cupSR flour
  7. 1sweetened dried apples

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 350°F

  2. 2

Spray a 10 inch cast iron skillet with cooking spray

  3. 3

Divide dough into 20 balls all about the same size

  4. 4

Roll each ball out into a thin layer that is the size of your skillet

  5. 5

Do all 20 layers this way and bake one at a time in oven until golden brown. These cakes will be crisp.

  6. 6

Cook your dried apples with a little water. You want them to be thick. When they are cool sweeten them to your liking and spread 2 tablespoons of apples between each layer of cake.

  7. 7

This cake can be a 20 layer cake or you can make 2 10 layers which is what I do. I freeze one cake for later
