Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a pan over low heat, melt the butter with the brown sugar. Pour this mixture into a 9-inch cake pan. - 2
Arrange the pineapple slices so they don't overlap and place the cherries. Set aside.

Mix all the dry ingredients for the cake in a bowl and set aside.

Cream the butter with the sugar in a mixer and gradually add the eggs and vanilla.

Add the remaining ingredients, alternating between the dry and liquid ingredients, and beat until you have a smooth batter.

Pour into the pan carefully so as not to move the pineapples. Bake for 25 minutes or until cooked through. Cool and unmold.
