Ingredients

30 -35 minutes
3-4 servings
  1. 200-250 gramscolocasia (arbi or taro roots)
  2. 1/2 cupyogurt, beaten (curd or dahi)
  3. 1 medium sizedonion, chopped finely
  4. 3 medium sizedtomatoes, chopped finely
  5. 1 teaspoonGinger Garlic Paste
  6. 1/2 teaspoonturmeric
  7. 1/2-2/3 teaspooncarom seeds (ajwain)
  8. 1/2 teaspoonred chili powder
  9. 1/4 teaspoonGaram Masala
  10. 2-2.5 cupswater
  11. 2 tablespoonsoil
  12. As Per Tasterock salt (edible and food grade) or black salt or regular salt

Steps

30 -35 minutes
  1. 1

    First, wash the arbi to remove all the mud from them.

  2. 2

    Now oil your palms before you peel and slice the arbi.

  3. 3

    They can be itchy when slicing, so to avoid that oil your palms.

  4. 4

    Peel the arbi and cut each arbi vertically into two or four pieces.
    Soak them in salted water for 30 minutes

  5. 5

    Making dahi Wali Arbi :-
    In a pan or pressure cooker heat oil.
    First, fry the ajwain seeds.

  6. 6

    Then add the onions and fry till transparent.

  7. 7

    Now add the ginger garlic paste and saute it till the raw smell of the paste goes away.

  8. 8

    Add the chopped tomatoes and stir.

  9. 9

    Also, add all the dry spice powders.

  10. 10

    Saute the till until oil starts to leave the masala.
    Drain the arbi and add them to the masala. saute for 1-2 minutes.
    Now add the yogurt and stir.
    Add water and salt. mix well.
    Cover the pan or the pressure cooker and cook the arbi till done

  11. 11

    For cooking in a pressure cooker, cook for approx 4-6 whistles or till the arbi becomes soft and well cooked.... ready to Serve 😋

  12. 12

    Garnish with coriander leaves.

  13. 13

    Serve dahi wali arbi hot with some rotis or phulkas.
