Modak is a popular Hindu sweet dessert, which is especially made in abundance during Ganesh Chaturthi every year.

Steps

In a heavy bottom pan/ kadhai add fine sooni. Roast sooji for 5-7 minutes. Then add 1 tsp ghee into sooji & roast.

Add chopped nuts into well roasted sooji. Then add milk powder & stir well.

Once roasted, add 3/4 cup milk into sooji & stir quickly so no lump can occure. Continue stirring. Then add more milk to cook the sooji soft.Add saffron milk. This will get nice taste & color to sooji. Cover sooji for 3-4 min & cook.
Add shreded coconut into cooked sooji. Mix coconut well & cook more. You can add coconut into sooji while roasting. So that coconut will get roasted with sooji. - 4
Add sugar powder & stir well & cook.
Once cooked add ghee. Cover the sooji mixture & keep aside to cool.
Add cardamom powder. - 5
Sooji mixture is ready to make modak. Now take a modak mould. Apply ghee into each part of the mould
Place one saffron strand & one piece of pistachio into the compartment of each mould.
Then fill each part from one side of mould with the sooji mixture. Fold the mould & fill other part of mould with mixture. Fill & press tightly. This makes a good shape to modak. - 6
Then open the mould. Remove carefully each modak from the mould. Delicious modaks are ready. Demould modak & serve Lord ganesha as a prasad.
