A Single Serving Okonomiyaki with Just Cabbage

I occasionally get the urge to have okonomiyaki! I only had cabbage, so I just went ahead and made one.

When you turn the pancake over, instead of using a plate (which I used to do too) use the lid of the frying pan. It's a lot easier this way. For 1 large pancake. Recipe by Eriririn

Ingredients

1 serving
  1. 1/8Cabbage
  2. 1Egg
  3. 3 tbspPlain white flour
  4. 1/2of a pack The contents of a dashi stock tea bag (contains bonito flakes, dried sardine powder etc.)
  5. 30 mlWater
  6. 1 tbspOil

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Chop up the cabbage into about 7 mm square pieces, or shred it finely.

  2. 2

Pout the egg, flour, the contents of the dashi stock pack into a bowl and mix together. Add the water and mix some more.

  3. 3

Add the chopped cabbage and mix again.

  4. 4

Heat some oil (about 1 tablespoon) in a frying pan and cook the pancake with a lid on over medium heat for about 4 minutes.

  5. 5

Turn the pancake over. If you find this difficult, slide the pancake onto the lid of the frying pan and turn over. Easy!

  6. 6

Cook on the other side for 3 to 4 minutes over medium heat. No need to put the lid back on here.

  7. 7

Finished! Try this with ponzu sauce instead of the usual okonomiyaki sauce. It will be quite light.
