Sweet and Spicy Simmered Grilled Tofu and Ground Pork

I love the tofu in sukiyaki. So I thought up a recipe for a sweet and spicy tofu that I could make with ingredients I usually have on hand.
I use a large pack of tofu.
At Step 3, if you find that your pork is sticking to the frying pan, please add a little oil. The seasoning in this dish is very robust. Please adjust the amount of soy sauce to your taste. For 4 servings. Recipe by Poron526

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut the tofu into 8 pieces.
- 2
Slice the onion thinly and lengthwise along the grain.
- 3
Stir fry the ground pork in a non-stick frying pan without any oil. When the color of the meat has changed add the onion and stir fry until the onion is softened.
- 4
Add the tofu and the ingredients marked with * - 300 ml of water, the soy sauce, mirin, sake, light brown sugar and dashi stock granules - to the pan in Step 3. Cover with a piece of aluminum foil and simmer for 10 minutes over medium heat.
- 5
Add the grated ginger, and finally add the katakuriko dissolved in water to thicken the sauce.
- 6
Sprinkle some chopped green onions on top to taste. It's done! It's good with some ichimi togarashi red chili pepper powder sprinkled on too.

I was working on recipes that used our family favorite Sweet and Spicy Sauce. At first I tried it without mayonnaise, and it was 'just ok', not worth writing up as a recipe. But once I added mayonnaise it became a dish I was proud of, so I uploaded it here.-Use a thick, durable kitchen paper towel that holds up to heat well for Step 2.-Katakuriko absorbs a lot of oil, so if there isn't enough oil add some more.-This is delicious as a donburi rice bowl topping.
