This is my mom's recipe—my favorite soup during Lent. It's delicious and easy to make.

In a pot, bring 4 cups of water (about 950 ml) to a boil over medium-high heat. Rinse the fava beans well with water. Once the water is boiling, add the fava beans and let them cook for 30 minutes.

When the fava beans start to split, add the tomatoes, onion, garlic, salt, lard, cilantro, and jalapeño pepper. Let it simmer for another 30 minutes.

Once the fava beans are fully cooked, serve the soup in a bowl. Enjoy!
