Indian Masala Dal Rice

Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 1 cupRice
  2. 3/4 cupToor Dal
  3. 1Onion
  4. 2"chopped Ginger piece grated
  5. 5-6Garlic cloves grated
  6. 1Tomato medium chopped
  7. 2 cupBrinjal and potato cubed
  8. 2Green Chillies broken
  9. 1/2 teaspoonCumin Seeds
  10. 1/2 teaspoonTurmeric Powder
  11. 1 teaspoonRed Chilli Powder
  12. 3 tablespoonsGhee (Butter)
  13. to tasteSalt
  14. 1 teaspoonGaram masala

Cooking Instructions

    Clean, wash and soak the rice and dal in water for 15 mins. before cooking. Drain and keep aside.

    Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a pressure cooker. Add the cumin seeds, When the seeds crackle, add ginger, garlic and onions. Saute for 2-3 minutes. Now, add brinjal and potato and saute for 4-5 minutes. Add salt to taste, turmeric powder, half the garam masala and red chilli powder. Mix well.

    Add soaked rice and dal and mix. Add 4 cups of water and broken green chillies and mix well. Pressure cook for 5 whistles.

    Serve hot with natural yogurt, papad or potato chips and any pickle.
