Mili-juli Dal Palak

Vegetarians have very few options available to include proteins in their daily diet and dal (lentil) is one of them. In this recipe , I have used 5 dals (chana dal, green moong dal, urad dal, masoor dal & tur dal) with spinach, which makes this dish very nutritious and tasty too. We can have it with phulkas or steamed rice.

In this recipe , I have used 5 dals (chana dal, green moong dal, urad dal, masoor dal & tur dal) with spinach, which makes this dish very nutritious and tasty too. We can have it with phulkas or steamed rice.

Mix and Rinse all dals 3-4 times, add tomato (cut into small pieces) and sliced onions to the same and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles.

Wash & cut spinach roughly.

Grind garlic and green chillies to coarse paste.

Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin, mustard, hing. Once they crackle, add chilli-grlic paste, saute till raw smell goes.

Add spinach and kasuri methi to this, saute for 2 minutes.

Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and cooked dal. Add little water and salt. I had added jaggery and tamarind pulp so as to give the dal little sweet and tangy flavour. Sprinkle salt & garam masala. Add ghee. Let it boil for a minute and turn off the gas.

Serve hot with phulkas or rice.
