Ingredients

2 - 3 people
  1. 200 gmspumpkin,peeled,sliced to medium pieces
  2. 5small Taro Root or Colocasia
  3. 1/2 cupYellow split Pigeon peas(toor dal),washed,soak for 15 minutes before pressure cooking.mash to a paste once cooked
  4. 1lemon sized ball of Tamarind soaked in water and juice extracted
  5. 6green chillies split
  6. 1 tspturmeric powder
  7. 2 tbspchilli powder
  8. Salt
  9. Water
  10. Jaggery or sugar optional
  11. Tempering
  12. 11/2 tspMustard seeds
  13. 10shallots slices
  14. 1/4 tspfenugreek seeds
  15. 1 tbspraw rice
  16. 4dry red chilli
  17. 2 sprigscurry leaves
  18. 1 tspAsafoetida powder

    Cut pumpkin and taro root,split the green chilli.Add them to the pan along with turmeric, chilli powder and a few curry leaves.

    Add adequate water and cook well.

    Add tamarind water and boil.add the cooked dal and mix well.bring to boil in Low flame and let it boil for 5 minutes.Add jaggery or sugar.if you want bit of sweetness.I have the jaggery syrup readily available.so a tablespoon of the same was added.boil well

    For tempering,heat oil in a pan,add mustard seeds,fenugreek seeds and rice.when it starts to splutter,add sliced shallots.when it s translucent,add Asafoetida powder and sauté well till aromatic.Add dry chilli and curry leaves.sauté for few seconds and pour it into the curry.mix well and serve.
