Cooking Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to gas 4 / 180C / 350F and grease a standard loaf tin
- 2
Mix the hoisin sauce and tomato ketchup together in a small bowl. Set aside
- 3
Heat the oil in a frying pan over a medium heat
- 4
Cook the onion, garlic and ginger for 3 minutes to soften and infuse then take off the heat and stir in the 5 spice. Set aside to cool
- 5
Mix the pork / beef breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce + water (or soy) and half of the hoisin / tomato sauce mixture in a large bowl with the cooled onion, garlic & ginger. Knead the mixture like you would if making bread. This will help bind the meat better as there's no egg
- 6
Press the mixture into the loaf tin and bake for 45 minutes
- 7
Drain the fat off then spread the remaining hoisin / tomato sauce on the top of meatloaf. Return to oven and bake for a further 15 minutes
- 8
Carefully drain the fat again and let rest for 10 minutes in the tin before serving (use a fish slice to remove it from the tin) or let cool fully and enjoy chilled
- 9
Great with rice or mashed potatoes and green vegetables

BBQ Meatloaf BBQ Meatloaf
My kids and I wanted to experiment with a basic meatloaf recipe. Prep time 10 minutes, cook time 50 minutes. I think I need to change servings from 6 to 1 adult and 2 teens in one sitting. As the adult I only got a normal serving size. Phillip Dietz -
Barbecue cheeseburger meatloaf Barbecue cheeseburger meatloaf
This is yet another one of those spur-of-the moment recipes which I love. Not only are they great for exercising creativity, they're also extra satisfying when they turn out well. Which this one definitely did. This time around, it started with a package of mince. The original plan was to turn it into smashburgers or koftas, but my wife requested meat loaf instead. So it was off to the market to get some ingredients. As I walked through the cheese aisle it occured to me that I could make the loaf a hundred times more interesting by adding cheese to it. And maybe not just sprinkled cheese on top, but somehow stuffed inside the loaf so it'd get all gooey and melty. Needless to say, I finished the shopping trip lickety-split and zipped straight home to get to work. As I said off the top, the dish turned out well. That's actually an understatement, because between my wife and I (our daughter ate ahead, because it's a school night) we managed to finish half of a pretty big loaf, along with a healthy serving of mashed potatoes. So yeah, there you go. Barbecue cheeseburger meatloaf. It's a thing, it's delicious, and you should give it a try. Robert Gonzal -
Bacon, Barbecue and Cheese Smothered Leftover Meatloaf Bacon, Barbecue and Cheese Smothered Leftover Meatloaf
I made and cooked two meatloaves so I could freeze one for a later dinner. After I defrosted it , I decided to serve it in a new way and what doesn't taste great with bacon, cheese and barbecue sauce? We rarely have "leftover" meatloaf but I think I'll make two from now on! Maybe next time I'll use sauce, pepperoni and mozzarella. Yum!! Bridget -

I like to do a pulled pork a few times a year but especially around Christmas time. Turkey sandwiches can get a bit too much if there are lots of leftovers so pulled pork inbetween shakes things up a bit.
