[Delicious] Grilled Edamame

Don't just boil edamame—grilling brings out a wonderful roasted flavor and concentrates the umami!
Recipe background:
I recreated the grilled edamame I had at a restaurant. They sautéed it with garlic, but just using salt brings out a light, delicious flavor that's outstanding.

Steps

  1. 1

Wash the fresh edamame thoroughly and drain well.

  2. 2

Sprinkle the edamame with salt and toss to coat evenly. Let sit for about 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Add about 1 tablespoon olive oil to a skillet and spread the edamame evenly in the pan.

  4. 4

Cover and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the pods are slightly charred, about 10 minutes.

  5. 5

Taste a bean; if it's still firm, cook a little longer. Adjust the doneness to your preference.

  6. 6

    [For Black Soybeans]
Edamame made from black soybeans is in season in the fall. The beans are larger, so cook them a bit longer.

They may not look perfect, but they're fluffy and delicious, almost like chestnuts.
