I have been surprised at how beautifully this turned out, the sweetness and tang amazingly balanced. And also the warm orangish color of the gravy that went very well with the colourful bell peppers..! My father who can't have regular spicy chicken, adored this!
Must try! #CA2025 #cookpadindia #sweetandsourchicken

Steps

2 hrs
  1. 1

There are 3 steps in the process. First, we marinate the chicken for an hour before the process. Second, we make a batter for the chicken to be fried. Third, we make a sauce for the gravy.

  2. 2

In the chicken bowl, we marinate the chicken pieces by adding all ingredients and lather the pieces well so they stay tender and moist, an hour before the process.

  3. 3

Dice up the bell peppers and onions and rest aside.

  4. 4

We make the cornstarch- maida batter for frying up the chicken with all the ingredients in list. It should be a thick batter, but not too thick, or too runny. Heat the oil while you coat the pieces well. Dip the chicken pieces in the batter, and fry them up in medium to high flame. The chicken pieces will get golden to orangish and swollen, due to baking soda.

  5. 5

Once the whole batch of chicken is fried up, keep them aside. In a wok, pour 3 tbsp of refined oil, fry the bell peppers and onions. Keep tossing them until the veggies settle down a bit.

  6. 6

Prepare the sauce with all the ingredients. Now into the veggies wok, add all the sauces and mix well. Let it boil for some time. Add paprika powder. Add salt if required. Add cornstarch slurry to thicken gravy.

  7. 7

Add the fried chicken in the mixture. Let it boil under covered lid for 10 mins. Add one whole lemon juice. Sprinkle white sesame seeds before garnish.
