Ingredients

  1. 6Tart apples
  2. 1/2 cupWhite sugar
  3. 1/2 cupBrown sugar
  4. 3/4 tspCinnamon
  5. 2 tspLemon juice
  6. 3/4 cupFlour, sifted
  7. 1/4 tspSalt, or just dash
  8. 6 tbspMargarine or butter
  9. 1/4 cupChopped nuts, optional

Steps

    1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. 2

    2. Peel, core and slice apples into bowl. Add white sugar, half of the spices and lemon juice. Mix lightly, and pour into greased or buttered 1& 1/2 quart casserole or 8x 8 or 9 x 9 pan.

  3. 3

    3. Blend remaining sugar, flour and butter with fingers into crumbly consistency. Sprinkle over Apple mixture. Bake 45 minutes or until the apples are tender and the crust is nicely browned. Note, you could use all white sugar, but I like brown sugar for topping.
