Soft and sugary, gulab jamun is a delight to have.

The original, traditional recipe takes some time, so I make these bread gulab jamuns, that are so easy to make, that I make them whenever I feel like having them.

Ingredients

30-40 mins
2 servings
  1. 5/6 Sliceswhite bread (you can use brown bread also)
  2. 2 Tbspfresh cream
  3. 1/4 CupMilk
  4. 1 tbspflour
  5. 2 cupscooking oil (for deep frying)
  6. 1/2 tspcardamom powder
  7. Crushed dried fruits (pistachios, almonds) for filling: Optional
  8. For sugar syrup
  9. 1 CupSugar
  10. 1 CupWater
  11. 2Cardamom Pods

Cooking Instructions

30-40 mins
  1. 1

Put the bread slices in a blender and make a powder of it, like with bread crumbs.

  2. 2

Combine powdered bread, cream, milk, flour and cardamom powder in a bowl. Mix and knead a dough.

  3. 3

Let the dough rest for 5-10 mins, and in the meantime, prepare the sugar syrup. Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and let it simmer for 6-7 mins. Keep it aside.

  4. 4

While the syrup is cooking, apply some oil on your palm, take a tablespoon of the dough and roll the gulab jamun ball. You can add some crushed dried fruits in the center, too. Repeat for the entire dough.

  5. 5

Deep fry them in medium hot oil for 3-5 mins, till it turns golden brown. Drain on a tissue paper/kitchen towel to remove excess oil.

  6. 6

Dunk the gulab jamun balls in the sugar syrup and let them soak for 15-20 mins.

  7. 7

Garnish with chopped dried fruits and serve.

  8. 8

Best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream 😋
