Rajma is the Indian name for red kidney beans. These protein rich beans come in few varieties like, red rajma, chitra(spotted and striped), Jammu and are consumed mainly in India. As rajma is richest plant based protein source, it is referred as "poor man's meat".
Rajma is very popular North Indian Curry which taste best with rice and also with any flat breads. 'Rajma-Chawal' is a very popular combination, loved by all.

Ingredients

40 minutes
4 persons
  1. 1 cupRed kidney beans (Rajma)
  2. 3onions
  3. 3tomatoes
  4. 8-10garlic cloves
  5. 1/4 tspturmeric powder
  6. 1 tbspred chilli powder
  7. 2 tbsprajma masala or garam masala
  8. 3 tbspoil
  9. 2 tbspfresh cream (optional)
  10. to tasteSalt

Cooking Instructions

    Soak rajma over night and pressure cook next morning. Cook it become mushy.

    Make puree of tomatos and grind onion and garlic into paste.

  3. 3

    Heat oil and saute onion garlic paste. Then add all spices and saute till oil separates from the mass.

    Add tomato puree and saute for few more minutes.

    Finally add boiled rajma and salt and little water, mix well and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.

    Add cream add the time of serving. Serve hot with any Indian flat bread or steamed or jeera rice.

    Can cook Rajma in ghee instead of oil.
