Muhammara is a delectable thick spread/dip/sauce which is an ever favourite in Syrian cuisine and is served all over Middle East too. Its a delicious dish made with roasted red bell peppers, crushed walnuts, tomatoes, olive oil, breadcrumbs and some flavouful spices. The result is a mouthwatering dip for all your breads, crispies, crackers and pita breads too. Use it as a spread for all wraps and sandwiches too. Try it for sure.

Ingredients

30 minutes
4 servings
  1. 2Red bell peppers
  2. 2Firm ripe red tomatoes chopped finely
  3. 2 tablespoonsRed bell pepper paste
  4. 1 tspPaprika
  5. 4Garlic cloves chopped fine
  6. 2 tablespoonsToasted walnuts crushed in coarse powder
  7. 1 tablespoonPomegranate molasses or date syrup or honey
  8. 2 tablespoonsOlive oil
  9. as per taste Salt
  10. 1 tspCumin powder
  11. 1/2 tspTurmeric powder (optional)
  12. as per taste Salt
  13. as required Garnish: some walnuts crushed, bell peppers slices,
  14. as neededGarnish: some lemon wedges and olive oil

Cooking Instructions

30 minutes
  1. 1

    First, fire roast or oven roast the red Bell peppers till skin is dark.
    Then keep in a bowl and cover for 5 minutes.

    Remove the skin and chop fine. Keep all the ingredients ready.

    Take a blender jar. Add all the ingredients one by one. Mix well with a spoon. Blend to a coarse and thick paste. Add more olive oil if needed to make the consistency proper.

    To serve, take out on a deep serving plate. Make patterns on the dip. Drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle crushed walnuts.

    Arrange some bell peppers and lemon wedges. Serve with your favourite breads or any accompaniment.
