Ingredients

  1. 1 tspcumin seeds / jeera
  2. 1 big bowlboiled tuar daal
  3. 1 big bowlboiled tuar daal
  4. 1 tspurad dal /black gram
  5. 2 tspcoriander seeds
  6. 1 tspchana dal /bengali gram
  7. 1/4 tspmethi seeds / fenugreek seeds
  8. 5kashmiri red chillis dried
  9. as neededfew curry leaves
  10. 1 tspoil
  11. 1/4onion roughly chopped
  12. 1/2 tspgarlic paste
  13. 1/4 cupcoconut fresh / desiccated
  14. as neededsmall gooseberry sized tamarind
  15. 1/2 tspgaram masala powder
  16. as requiredwater to blend smooth
  17. 1/2onion diced into cubes
  18. 1/2potato diced into cubes
  19. 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  20. to tastesalt
  21. 1/4 cupbeans chopped
  22. 3 cupswater or as required to adjust consistency
  23. as neededsmall piece of jaggery / gud
  24. as neededfew coriander leaves chopped
  25. For tempering
  26. 1 tspoil
  27. 3/4 tspmustard seeds
  28. 3/4 tspurad dal
  29. pinchhing / asafoetida
  30. as neededfew curry leaves

Cooking Instructions

    In a wide pan add oil, cumin seeds, urad dal, chana dal, coriander seeds, methi, red chillis and few curry leaves

    Now add some onions and garlic paste

  3. 3

    Switch off the flame and add coconut

  4. 4

    Add a piece of tamarind and garam masala powder.

  5. 5

    Blend to smooth paste

  6. 6

    In a large kadai add a tsp of oil and saute diced onions till they sweat.

    Now add potatoes and fry for a minute

  8. 8

    Along with water also add turmeric and salt to taste

  9. 9

    Now add beans and cook for a minute

  10. 10

    Add prepared masala paste and give a good stir. boil for 5-8 minutes

    Add cooked dal

    Also add 2-3 cups of water to get desired consistency

  13. 13

    Add a small piece of jaggery

  14. 14

    Prepare the tempering and pour it to sambar

  15. 15

    Add few chopped coriander leaves and give a good mix
