Ingredients

  1. FOR SAMBHAR
  2. 1 cupTuar dal
  3. 1 cupchopped cauliflower
  4. 1/2 cupchopped carrot
  5. 1/2 cupchopped brinjal
  6. to tasteSalt
  7. 1 teaspoonred chilli powder
  8. 1/2 teaspoonturmeric powder
  9. 1 tablespoonsambhar powder
  10. 1 teaspoonmustard seeds
  11. 2chopped green chillies
  12. 5-6curry leaves
  13. 1 pinchAsofoetida
  14. 1finely chopped onion
  15. 1finely chopped tomato
  16. 1 tablespoontamarind pulp
  17. 7-8garlic cloves
  18. 2 tablespoonoil
  19. FOR IDLI
  20. 1 cupsemolina
  21. 1 cupcurd
  22. to tasteSalt
  23. 1/2 teaspoonBlack Pepper Powder
  24. 1 teaspooneno salt
  25. as neededOil for greasing

Cooking Instructions

    FOR SAMBHAR- Add washed toor dal, salt and pepper, turmeric powder, asafoetida, mix vegetables with four cups water in a pressure cooker.

    Close the lid and cook for 4-5 whistles or until done.

    Add oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, chopped garlic & curry leaves in it.

    When they crackle add onion and soute them till they become transparent.

  5. 5

    Add tomato & green chilli in it & soute for 5min.

  6. 6

    Add salt and pepper, Sambhar powder & stir well.

  7. 7

    Add boiled dal & tamarind pulp in it. Stir well and cook for five minutes.

    Serve hot with rice, idli, dosa or vada.

    FOR IDLI- Take semolina in a bowl.

  10. 10

    Add curd, salt and pepper in it. Mix properly.

    Add eno salt in it.

    Boil water in a idli cooker.

  13. 13

    Grease the idli stand.

    Pour the mixture in idli stand.

  15. 15

    Place the idli stand in idli cooker and cover it.

    After 8-10 min. Switch off the flame and rest it for five minutes.

    Put idli with the help of knife.

  18. 18

    Serve hot with Sambhar.
