Mostly people make kadhi using buttermilk and besan as main ingredients but this recipe contains moong dal instead of besan. Healthy and easy to digest specially for those who avoid chickpea flour.

Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 1 cupMoong dal soaked overnight
  2. 3 cupsbuttermilk ( one cup curd and two cups water whisked together)
  3. As neededWater
  4. 1 tspTurmeric powder
  5. 1 tspred chilli powder
  6. To tasteSalt
  7. As neededOil for tempering and frying
  8. 1 tspMustard seeds /rai
  9. 1 pinchasafoetida/hing
  10. 4-5Curry leaves
  11. 2Dried red chillies optional
  12. 1 tspfenugreek seeds soaked
  13. As neededCoriander leaved to garnish

Cooking Instructions

    First grind the soaked moong dal and make a smooth paste out of it.

    Mix half of the paste with buttermilk add salt and turmeric powder. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Now put this batter on flame. Stirring continuously until it starts to boil.

  4. 4

    Once it starts boiling turn the flame to medium and let it cook for 25 to 30 minutes uncovered. It will turn aromat when ready.

    Meanwhile we will fry pakodas out of the remaining moong dal paste adding in some salt to taste.

    Add the pakodas to kadhi.

    Final step is tempering (tadka)

    Heat some oil in a wok...add asafoetida and mustard seeds let them splatter.

    Then add soaked and strained fenugreek seeds along with curry leaves and red chillies.

    Immediately add red chilli powder and put this tadka on kadhi.

    Mix well.. keep covered for 5 mins then garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
