Prepare to experience a taste of the past with these Roman-themed stuffed dates! The ideal balance of flavour and texture is produced by a few invigorating ingredients, which is why this recipe has stood the test of time.

During the era of the Gladiators Roman Stuffed Dates, or Dolcia Domestica, was a favourite among Ancient Rome's aristocracy and commoners alike. Food vendors would traverse the steps of the Colosseum selling this popular snack. They were so delicious that they transcended social class and became a favourite among spectators, from senators to stone masons. They became a staple of the street food culture that surrounded the Colosseum.

These dates are really, really good. You could grind the nuts into a fine paste, but I like the texture a lot when they’re left a little coarse. They’re sweet from the dates and the honey, but the salt and pepper balance it so well (highly recommend the long pepper here).
