Kafta is a Lebanese version of a kabob, it is made with spiced ground meat mixed with chopped onion and parsley. It is a very simple to make and tastes wonderful grilled in the summertime, or in a casserole like this one. The kafta is formed into patties and topped with cooked potatoes, onions and tomatoes simmered with a seasoned tomato sauce.🍅

Ingredients

  1. 1 kgcombined lamb and beef mince
  2. 1 bunchparsley (finely chopped)
  3. 2medium onions (finely chopped)
  4. 2potatoes (slice 1cm in thickness)
  5. 3tomatoes (slice into circles)
  6. 1sweet capsicum (sliced)
  7. 1/2 tsp7 spices
  8. 1/2 tspsalt
  9. Sauce preparation:
  10. 2 cupswater
  11. 3 spoonstomato paste
  12. 1/4 cuppomegranate syrup
  13. 1/3 tsp7 spices
  14. 1/2 tspsalt

Cooking Instructions

    Fry the sliced potatoes in an appropriate amount of oil, until golden in colour

    In an appropriate bowl, combine the mince meat, onion, parsley, salt and the 7 spices together until you have a
    consistent mixture.

    Using your hands, divide the Kafta into balls, in an appropriate size.

    Flatten each ball into a circle to obtain kafta patties.

    In a tray, arrange the onion slices, tomatoes, kafta, capsicum and potatoes

    Sprinkle with 7 spices

    Tomato Sauce Preparation: in a wide pot, pour water, tomato paste, pomegranate syrup, 7 spices and salt
    mix all ingredients using a whisk, until the tomato paste has dissolved

    Pour tomato sauce (which was prepared)

    Bake the kafta on 350° for 45 mins until golden

  10. 10

    Kafta  is served with rice vermicelli on the side.
