Puran poli is an Indian sweet flatbread. The various names for the flatbread include Holigeor Obbattu in Kannada, Puran poli or Vedmi in Gujarati, Puran poli in Marathi, Uppittu in Malayalam, and Tamil, Baksham or Bobbattu or Oliga in Telugu, Andhra Pradesh, and Pole/Polae in Telangana, Ubbatti or simply Poli in Konkani. It's recipe is mentioned in Manucharitra, a 14th-century Telugu encyclopedia. Holige is made from Channa, Plain flour (wheat flour), Jaggery or Cane Sugar, Cardemom powder and/or Nutmeg powder, Ghee and Water. Sometimes Toor dal is used in Gujarat. It is commonly used in the state of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu as well. In Andhra Pradesh and other places, Moong dal, Chana or a mix is used. Other ingredients that may or may not be used are: Nuts, Dates, Turmeric powder. #puranpoli #moong dal

Ingredients

  1. For Moong dal stuffing
  2. 1 cupMoong dal (yellow split moong beans)
  3. 1 tablespoonGhee
  4. 4 tablespoonsugar powder
  5. For Paratha dough
  6. 1 cupWheat flour
  7. 1 teaspoonoil
  8. as neededWater

  1. 1

    Cook the magadal in a pan until it turns golden brown in colour. Then crush it in a mixer and fry it in a sauce pan with ghee and sugar powder. When the mixture cools down, make small balls.

    Now add oil in wheat flour and make a dough like ordinary paratha, roll thick paratha, put the Moong dal stuffing on it, fold it and roll the Puranpoli again with light hands. Cook the Puranpoli with ghee on iron skillet.
