Ingredients

25-30 minutes
4 servings
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 inchginger (finely chopped)
  • 1/2onion (finely chopped)
  • 1green chilli (slit)
  • 1tomato
  • 1/4 tspturmeric / haldi
  • 1/2 tspkashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1 tspsalt
  • ¾ cup moong dal
  • 3 cupwater
  • for tempering / tadka:
  • 1 tbspghee / clarified butter
  • 1 tspcumin / jeera
  • 4 clovesgarlic
  • 1 inchginger (julienne)
  • 1dried kashmiri red chilli
  • 1/4 tspkashmiri red chilli powder / lal mirch powder
  • 1/4 tspgaram masala
  • pinchhing
  • leavesfew curry
  • 2 tbspcoriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsplemon juice

Steps

25-30 minutes
  1. 1

    Firstly in a cooker heat 2 tbsp oil and saute ½ onion.
    also saute 1 inch ginger and 1 green chilli.
    additionally saute 1 tomato till it turns soft and mushy.

  2. 2

    Add in ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp salt and saute.
    now add ¾ cup washed moong-dal and 3 cup water.
    mix well making sure everything is combined well.
    cover and pressure cook on medium flame for 1-2 whistles.

    Open and check the dal once pressure is released. do not mash.

    Now prepare the tadka and pour the tempering over dal along with 2 tbsp coriander leaves and 1 tbsp lemon juice.
    finally, mix the moong-dal tadka and serve with hot rice/roti.
