Ingredients

30 minutes
4 serve
  1. 2 tbspoil
  2. 1 inchginger (finely chopped)
  3. 1onion (finely chopped)
  4. 1green chilli (slit)
  5. 2-3tomato (finely chopped)
  6. 1/4 tspturmeric / haldi
  7. 1/2 tspkashmiri red chilli powder / lal mirch powder
  8. 1 tspsalt
  9. 3/4 cupgreen moong dal / yellow moong dal (your choice)
  10. 3 cupwater for tempering / tadka:
  11. 1 tbspghee / clarified butter
  12. 1 tspcumin / jeera
  13. 4 clovesgarlic (crushed)
  14. 1 inchginger (julienne)
  15. 1dried kashmiri red chilli (optional)
  16. 1/4 tspkashmiri red chilli powder / lal mirch powder
  17. 1/4 tspgaram masala
  18. pinchhing / asafoetida
  19. leavesfew curry
  20. 2 tbspcoriander leaves (finely chopped)
  21. 1 tbsplemon juice

Cooking Instructions

    Firstly in a cooker heat 2 tbsp oil and saute ½ onion.

    Also saute 1 inch ginger and 1 green chilli.

  3. 3

    Additionally saute 1 tomato till it turns soft and mushy.

    Add in ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp salt and saute.

    Now add ¾ cup washed green moong-dal and 3 cup water.

    Mix well making sure everything is combined well.

  7. 7

    Cover and pressure cook on medium flame for 1-2 whistles.

    Open and check the dal once pressure is released. do not mash.

  9. 9

    Now prepare the tadka and pour the tempering over dal along with 2 tbsp coriander leaves and 1 tbsp lemon juice.

    Finally, mix the moong-dal tadka and serve with hot roti / steam rice, jeera rice
